Grant giving policy and guidelines (2008)

What do we fund?

We know there is an enormous need and that our resources are limited.
To be as effective as possible we will only consider grants for applications that cover projects in the following area:

Supporting Young People.

We welcome applications from organisations working with young people aged 11 to 25. Applications will benefit by showing how a project supports this particular age group. We want to support projects that offer intensive support as well as those that promote preventative work, and specially those that are designed to lead to individual development through integration, work opportunities or accreditation.

We are looking for excellence, innovation and imagination. We will look for strong evidence of how closely applicants consult young people in developing their service, and for any community involvement or local financial support. Please make sure the age range your project will benefit is very clear.

How much can you apply for?
We support about thirty charities a year with average grants of £1000, and we receive ten times the number of applications we can support. Those that are succinct and that give direct answers to the questions in the application form stand a greater chance of success. We will not commit ourselves to awarding grants to an organisation for more than one year, though you are welcome to reapply 12 months after the first application.

Who can apply?

We will only fund organisations that are registered charities.

What we will not fund:

* National organisations, even if the project is local
*General appeals and activities which collect funds for subsequent redistribution
* Individuals
* Promotion of religion
* Services run by statutory or public authorities, or that replace statutory funding
* Minibuses, animal charities
* Projects that have already taken place
* excursions,outings, trips, fun days

What type of grants will we give?

We will give grants for running costs, both project and core costs, and capital costs.
